How to File a Canadian Tire Complaint

Many Canadian Tire stores are owned and run by local Dealers rather than by head office, so a store-level complaint is a conversation with a business owner, not a corporate department. That one fact decides how you should escalate: fix it at the store if you can, and bring Corporate Customer Relations in when you cannot.

Dealer stores and head office

The Canadian Tire name, flyers and rewards program are corporate. The store you walk into is typically a Dealer's business. For a refund or a service dispute, talk to the store manager or the service manager first and ask for the outcome you want. If that fails, Corporate Customer Relations (1-800-387-8803, or 1-800-565-3356 in French) can step in.

Returns: what the policy says

Canadian Tire's published policy offers a refund or exchange on unopened items with a receipt and original packaging within 90 days. Opened or damaged items may not qualify, and some categories such as electronics and e-scooters have a shorter 30-day window. For a defective item, the manufacturer's warranty applies and the usual remedy is repair or replacement. The receipt look-up feature can verify card purchases made within 90 days. Read the current terms on canadiantire.ca before you go in, since categories change.

Auto service problems

The service counter is where complaints get expensive. Before authorising work, ask for a written estimate. After the work, keep the work order and the invoice, and if something looks wrong, ask for a written explanation of what was repaired and why. That paper is what a regulator or a court will want to see.

Ontario has specific repair rights, including estimates and the return of replaced parts on request. They are set out in our car dealer and mechanic complaint guide.

Rewards points and roadside help

Missing Triangle Rewards points are a records problem. Call 1-800-226-8473 with your card number and the receipts for the purchases that did not post. For roadside assistance disputes, such as a long wait or a refused tow, note the time of each call and the reference number you were given.

Return, repair or warranty: three different doors

A return is the store buying the product back. A repair or replacement under warranty is the manufacturer's promise, often with its own time limit. Some products, such as batteries and tires, carry separate warranty terms. Ask which door applies before you argue, and keep the receipt in a photo on your phone so a faded paper copy does not end the discussion.

Sources & Verification

Contact numbers and return terms come from Canadian Tire's customer service pages.
