ComplaintCA identifies the correct Canadian authority for a complaint — municipal, provincial, or federal — and helps a person file it correctly, the first time. It offers AI-assisted drafting in 7 languages, an MP finder, cyber crime reporting, access-to-information requests, and a panel that connects legal-track cases with independent partner lawyers.
No one turned away for not knowing the process
A Canada where filing a complaint against a landlord, an employer, or a government office doesn't require a law degree, a paid consultation, or hours lost to the wrong office. Where the deciding factor in whether someone is heard is whether they were wronged — not whether they knew how the system works.
Three paths, one platform
Notify an institution — put a formal complaint on record, with the deadline tracked. Assert a legal right — build a case file organized well enough that an independent partner lawyer can pick it up and act. Request information — file the access-to-information request a government body is legally required to answer.
Any licensed lawyer (a law faculty graduate in good standing) can access the Lawyer Panel free of charge. Becoming a Partner Lawyer, with priority placement, carries a fee — the amount is not publicly disclosed and is shared only with lawyers applying for that status. ComplaintCA never charges users for these connections.
Real authorities, never AI guesses
All authorities, deadlines, and legal citations presented to users are drawn from a manually verified reference table or from official public datasets, such as the Ontario Ministry of Education's directory of schools and school boards. The AI assists with classifying a complaint and drafting the letter; the authority that receives it is always taken from the verified reference table. Where a detail cannot be confirmed, the platform states this rather than supplying an unverified answer, and each guide links directly to its official source.
Case Pool precedents. Similar court and tribunal decisions are identified through AI-assisted search. A decision is displayed only when its CanLII link was returned by that search. Any success estimate derived from these decisions is presented as an estimate and does not constitute a guarantee or legal advice.
Art. V — Independence
Funding. ComplaintCA is a civil society platform and is free of charge for the people who use it. Operating costs are supported in part by advertising served automatically through Google AdSense. ComplaintCA does not select individual advertisements, and advertisers have no influence over complaint routing, guide content, or the presentation of any case.
Sponsorship. Sponsorship may be accepted from organizations whose work is consistent with the platform's mission, including legal service providers, legal-aid and civic technology foundations, and non-profit consumer assistance organizations. All sponsors are disclosed publicly. Sponsorship is not accepted from governments, political parties, or companies in sectors that are commonly the subject of complaints filed through the platform, including banks, insurers, and telecommunications providers.
Political neutrality. ComplaintCA is non-partisan. It is not affiliated with any political party, candidate, or government, and accepts no funding or endorsement from them. Every complaint is handled the same way, regardless of who it concerns.
